Our first in-person participation of the year: Seafood Expo North America

In Fernandez, we are happy to be a part, once more, of the “Seafood Expo North America” in Boston, United States, after two years of not being able to do it in person, due to the pandemic that affected the various items worldwide. In this opportunity, we represent our growth with the completion of the 5th process center, designed with ideal facilities to meet the needs of the most demanding customers in the market.

 

This fair is considered the most important in the fishing sector in the United States, since it brings together more than 1,300 suppliers from 49 countries in order to provide a space to access seafood products and do business with suppliers from various countries. of the world.

 We are proud to be a Peruvian company included in this fair for several years, being processors of hydrobiological products with high quality standards, each year we focus on satisfying the needs of our national and international clients, made up of a highly qualified team, committed to our organization and philosophy.

 

 

In addition, during the first days of the fair, we participated as part of the “Peru Mahi Alliance”, an alliance of various companies with WWF Peru, where a positive change was reflected in the Mahi Mahi fishery, thanks to the support and leadership of the industry in the Peru, sharing progress, achievements and next steps to follow in favor of the sustainability of the resource in our country.

 

Important facts about the MAHI MAHI´S conservation:

 

In recent years, Peru has been the main producer of Mahi Mahi with 50% of captures and exports that reach 100 million dollars annually. Generating around 40 thousand jobs, being the second most important artisanal fishery in the country.

 

One of the main problems of Mahi Mahi fishing is informality, Peru has been implementing a Fishing Improvement Project for the species since 2013, with the aim of achieving sustainability and achieving international certification by the Marine Stewardship Council. (MSC) by 2024. Despite being a long process, it is important to highlight the great progress that has been made in this last year, where the project has gained more strength thanks to the commitment of all the actors.

 

Hence, during this fair, the “Peru Mahi Alliance” (PMA) was launched with the purpose of ensuring and promoting the sustainable development of Peruvian Mahi Mahi fishing, this campaign is an alliance between entities such as WWF-Peru together with the processing and exporting companies of Peru, IMARPE, PRODUCE and artisanal fishermen with the mission of promoting and promoting the implementation of the program to continue working together, combating the problems of the fishery under the axes of sustainability, conservation of marine biodiversity and reinforcement participatory and transparent governance.
