Exploratory fishing. What is the aim of it?

The objective of exploratory fishing is to update information on the distribution and structure of sizes, sizes and reproductive evolution of hydrobiological resources, as well as indications of other species in a determined area of the Peruvian sea.  These activities are carried out in a period of time of 15 calendar days and in a specific area depending on the case of the species.

This permit is granted by the Ministry of Production (Produce), so that artisanal vessels that have a valid fishing permit together with the National Institute of the Sea of Peru (Imarpe) participate.  In addition, the General Directorate of Supervision, Inspection and Sanction of the Dispatch reflects some important rules to carry out exploratory fishing:

– Have a valid fishing permit to operate artisanal vessels.

 – Carry out fishing effort directed to the resource.

 – Change the fishing area in the event of entanglement of eggs of the species in fishing gear.

 – Have preservation systems or means on board that guarantee the freshness and safety of the product for direct human consumption.

 – Do not dump hydrobiological resources caught incidentally into the sea.

 – Respect the reserved areas and others whose access is limited, in accordance with current regulations.

 – Deliver biological samples of the species to the National Institute of the Sea of Peru (Imarpe) when the said Institution requires it.

 – Board the Scientific Research Technician when required by Imarpe and provide habitability, food and security facilities for the development of their work.

 – Unload the captured resources at the authorized landing points and facilitate the control of the discharge by the inspectors of the Ministry of Production or the Regional Governments.

 – Comply with the Imarpe indications within the framework of the exploratory work plan.

Likewise, this process plans the development of exploratory fishing, as well as its monitoring and follow-up to recommend, as the case may be, the suspension or termination of the investigation for reasons of resource conservation.
